The results were quite impressive as up to today the particular post has been a constant source of traffic for Archon Digital. It is also quite interesting to note that the Pinay Scandal post has one of the lowest bounce rates for content on my site.

I haven’t had time to get into specific metrics but a steady stream of traffic from 60 to 100 daily from search engines would always be welcome. I know this is still a small amount compared to most of the other Pinay Scandal articles out in the blogosphere but even so, considering I joined the Pinay Scandal bandwagon this late in the game, I am happy with the results.

The campaign has taught me well on how to write better keyword optimized articles which attract a steadier stream of traffic from search engines. I’m now into exploring more keyword rich articles which will also attract a certain level of search engine traffic.

This doesn’t take me away from my goal of helping generate awareness and get all those sex scandals, adult dating, pornographic sites using Pinay as their keyword off the front page of Google. These types of articles do not in any way help in improving the world’s perception of a true Filipina or Pinay for that matter.

Working at Makati Shangri-La has taught me a lot of things which I intend to bring along with me. The training and exposure I received has forever altered my DNA structure to a point where every future decision I make at work and in private would involve some level of Shangri-La into it.

I can’t even answer the phone like a normal person would without muttering the standard telephone clause. This is a good thing because I merely have to cut-n-paste the new company name on every standard line I used to say.

Now seriously, all the training and experience gained would be put into good use. I am now more capable of handling tough work situations, clients and vendors than I were five years ago before joining the hotel.

Shangri-La was my second home these past years and I will very much miss the people (and the wine, the buffet, the late-night club sandwiches and pizza) who were once part of daily life.

The cruise ship owned Oceania Cruises Inc. was able to speed away and outrun the pirates. All the passengers and crew were reported safe.

The Nautica was headed from Egypt to Oman when it encoutered the pirates.  The liner was in the middle of a 32-day cruise from Rome to Singapore, which includes stops at ports in Italy, Egypt, Oman, Dubai, India, Malaysia and Thailand.

This year alone has seen about 100 attacks on ships off the Somali coast where 40 vessels have been hijacked, Choong said. Fourteen of these vessels remain in the custody of these pirates along with more than 250 crew members.

A few months ago, pirates seized a Ukrainian freighter loaded with 33 Russian-made battle tanks in September, and on Nov. 15, The Sirius Star, a Saudi oil super-tanker carrying $100 million worth of crude oil.

An Indian navy warship has sunk a Somali pirate “mother ship”, after the renegades threatened to attack the frigate. Warships under a multi-national U.S.-led initiative continues to patrol the area, creating a security corridor in the region, but the attacks seem to not have diminished.

The security in the area has been at its most weakest due the lack of a functional government in war-torn Somalia which has been torn apart by 18 years of civil war. This situation has attracted pirates who seek shelter along the Somali coast.

True democracy in the Philippines has died a long time ago. We have been subject to all the lies from all sides to each and every conflict that has risen out of this mob rule. The people are sick of everything that is happening in Philippine politics.

Those on top running the show all make decisions for the country as if it were their own private enterprise. The different political parties can be likened to numerous crime families pushing for policies that would benefit their own interests.

Spin has been the key mover in this country where the people who run the show gets to work with the best spin doctors in town. These spin people turn every rotten tomato into one big heap of “yummy” crap for all the masses to chew upon and swallow.

It makes me wonder where the Philippines will be headed in the years to come as every leader who has taken over has been charged with plundering the nation’s resources for their own interests.

The Loop

This page was made using two loops. The first loop works by fetching the last five posts on the Studio category excluding post from the Portfolio category. It contains articles related to graphic design, web design, web development and Wordpress. The second loop then calls in all posts under the category Portfolio which is a special category I designed for showcasing artwork and in the future, some detailed case studies.

Here is the loop I used for the upper part where the titles are displayed:

The Switch Categories

The Portfolio category works like a switch much like how the Featured category works. Posts in the Portfolio category require custom fields to display some custom data such as client name, job output and other details which can be added later as the need arises.

The “Featured Artwork” section uses the following loop

The portfolio displays artwork for each post using custom fields displayed through conditional tags which add some extra html to display images.

This method of displaying custom fields makes migrating themes and future maintenance much simpler as compared to pasting blocks of code into a custom field everytime you write a post. It uses a conditional tag to display the needed html around the custom field “lead-image” only if the post has the appropriate custom field on it. The “lead-image” custom field only requires that I input the filename of the image I want to use.

Less Clutter

Since this section is intended to showcase Archon Digital’s work, all possible forms of distraction like the Entrecard widget, Google Adsense and other sidebar clutter were removed except for the main adzone containing the site’s four main 125×125 advertisement slots.

The Ubuntu server hosting this site has upgraded from Gutsy 7.10.1 to 8.04.1 LTS Hardy Heron, a move which was long overdue but was put on hold for the longest time due to technical problems encountered during the first attempt and conflicting schedules on the sysadmin’s part.

Today’s upgrade went smoothly and soon we will evaluate the possibility of migrating all of the sites to a new server running a clean install of Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10.

Here is a checklist of what I plan to include in this project and my progress in learning and applying these capabilities:

• theme options panel - (30%) I am still learning how to create an option panel for the theme
• fully widgetized layout - (100%) It turned out to be pretty easy to do and I actually overdone it on my previous theme as I made almost every part of the site widgetized.
• custom fields - (100%) Most of my other projects involved extensive use of custom fields and the needed conditional tags for its implementation.
• custom write panel - (20%) Just started to learn how this can be done without haing to install an external plugin.

In three months time we will see how this all turns out.

How will this affect Slicehost users? Slicehost annouced they are planning changes for the better which at this moment is still not clear as we are yet to see something concrete to ponder on.

But If all goes as planned according to their press releases, Archon Digital would benefit a lot by being able to purchase cheaper backup services as well lower server costs and larger slices.

This is a very smart and strategic move on the part of Slicehost’s owners, and as the United States’ economy  continues to experience a downturn, this acquisition would secure Slicehost’s future in the hosting industry.

This move by Rackspace can be seen by many as a direct challenge to Amazon Web Services. Rackspace has entered into the business of Cloud Computing and sees Slicehost and Jungle Disk to be a formidable combination for competing in this market.
