This site is about the author's obviously biased, first-hand accounts of his elaborate and sinister plans for world domination. Within this cyberspace entity lies Archon Digital's previously untold undertakings to commit himself to gain a higher level of being (read as: pagerank and moolah!) and his miserable failures which led him to instead shoot for his minor goal of becoming a successful internet entrepreneur. Archon Digital is a graphic designer's personal site, blog and portfolio site where the author writes about life, art, design, technology, politics, the internet and the simplest crack humor that would make up his otherwise overloaded and stressful day.

Archon Digital’s hosting provider, Slicehost and one of the internet’s most reliable online storage providers, Jungle Disk has both entered into an agreement to be acquired by Rackspace Hosting, Inc. The announcement was made on October 22, 2008 on their respective websites.

How will this affect Slicehost users? Slicehost annouced they are planning changes for the better which at this moment is still not clear as we are yet to see something concrete to ponder on.

But If all goes as planned according to their press releases, Archon Digital would benefit a lot by being able to purchase cheaper backup services as well lower server costs and larger slices.

This is a very smart and strategic move on the part of Slicehost’s owners, and as the United States’ economy  continues to experience a downturn, this acquisition would secure Slicehost’s future in the hosting industry.

This move by Rackspace can be seen by many as a direct challenge to Amazon Web Services. Rackspace has entered into the business of Cloud Computing and sees Slicehost and Jungle Disk to be a formidable combination for competing in this market.

“Cloud computing offers tremendous benefits to our customers that complement our traditional managed hosting services,” said Lanham Napier, CEO, Rackspace Hosting.

“Being a leader in hosting means being a leader in the cloud. Today, we made clear our intent to have the best suite of cloud offerings. Our new offerings are part of a strategy to bring cloud benefits to all businesses with simple, cost-effective products that everyone can use, backed by the best customer support that only Rackspace can deliver.”

Rackspace Hosting Inc., now publicly listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: RAX), has been around for 10 years and is one of the most respected companies in the hosting industry. The company is well known for their quality support and reliable service. At the moment there are approximately 33,000 business customers under their fold.

  6. Going VPS like Slicehost before getting on dedicated seems to be the most practical solution.

It is a lot of fun setting up your own box or slice but also a lot of hard work is needed.

My bad. I meant VPS on Slicehost. Yeah, that’s what I heard. Anyways, regarding the setting up, I’ll let my partner handle that. Hehe :D

  9. @Jaypee: Always better to have someone do it for you… Hayaan mo sya ang sumakit ang ulo sa pag setup.

Now isn’t that a good leadership principle or not?

@bloggista: I think it fits your requirement in terms of scalability and cost. You can try different combinations of slices and just upgrade when the need arises.

  10. Haha I know its nice when someone does it for you but the thing is, I don’t want to always rely on someone to do stuff for me. I like doin things myself.

That’s a nice leadership principle. If you’re the leader you can do whatever you want right? Hehe
