Twitter vs Plurk - Which is Better?

This idea has always been bugging me for quite some time now and though I have my own opinion about it I’d still want to ask you people which is better, Plurk or Twitter?

For the past year or so, I’ve always tried to get along with Plurk but sadly I just felt it wasn’t the app for me. With Twitter, I find it more rewarding being a blogger in terms of traffic and also in connecting with people in a closer way. But this is just me and I’m no social marketing expert and definitely not claiming to be one. I’m more interested in real users with real human opinions on this subject.

So what is the verdict? Plurk or Twitter?

I’ve never even heard of Plurk – and their logo looks weird. Think I’ll stick with Twitter for now.

  Plurk is quite popular in Asia and their codebase and interface seems to have even been cloned by a Microsoft China’s MSN Juku.
  
  With Plurk I tried it for a while but just couldn’t find time and the right tools for it.
  
  I use Twitter for personal and business use.

  The Plurk interface is actually very innovative and appealing but it’s the Twitter API that makes it a winner for me. There are dozens and dozens of tools and uses for Twitter feeds.

    Jonathan, Plurk is too weird for everyday use. However, my long-dormant account has been reactivated because I use Amplify.com

Well for the record I don’t really use Plurk. When I say really I mean never. So if I had to pick it woudl be twitter. I actually have been enjoying twitter a lot over the last few months. I wasn’t big on it at first but not it’s part of my daily routine. Twitter also help me advertise and market our members articles which is a huge benefit to myself.

  Plurk is missing something to get it to the next level and is being overshadowed by Twitter which can be very powerful.

Plurk? Never heard. I did not know that any service with that name even exists. Moreover, is that Pig in logo? Twitter is far more better.

  Yes, it’s not the first time I’ve heard that from someone. Plurk is still not as popular as many Asians think as it has failed to capture enough interest with the rest of the international community.

I like plurk better.

The interaction between users is easier. It’s just like you are chatting in IRC.

Most of the users in twitter are spammers anyway.

  Thanks Ark, as it’s great to hear more opinions favouring Plurk as I was really looking forward to hear opinions from both sides and further discuss benefits of both social networks.
  
  I would agree to a point that there are a lot of spam accounts on Twitter but I would disagree that majority users are spammers. Every social network or platform has its share of spam. The ratio on Twitter is still at an acceptable level given the vast network of individuals, public personalities and corporate users.

I haven’t really tried plurk yet and tried twitter for only few weeks since it is blocked in my location. But Ark mention that plurk is good so i will give it a try.

  It really is for me. Because when I tweet, no one seemed to bother replying to me.

I’ve opened accounts with Twitter and Plurk the same day in 2008.

Can’t really compare because Plurk’s interface is for gathering friends you want to hang out with everyday.

Twitter is more for work, a lot less personal. You say something and it gets buried easily. With Plurk, you say something, and it’s there for viewing according to your convenience. You don’t miss the conversations, it’s all there when you get back.

And yeah, I keep forcing myself to use Twitter but I always quit.
I’ve quit Plurk for a while because of Facebook, but I keep going back.

And yes, I’ve gained a new set of intelligent and kind friends from Plurk that I hang out with in real time.

Which is better? Depends on the person. If you like saying something out loud and randomly reach out to someone, Twitter it is. If you like the regular set of people to hang out with, then Plurk is it.

  Thank you for the insight, I agree with you on Plurk as being more targeted to people you actually know in person or for smaller “niche” groups. That being said, I do have both personal, blogger friends and other sorts of people on Twitter. I use lists to segregate followers and each of these lists gets a certain level of attention depending what “mode” I am in at certain times during the day.

I think I’m one of those Plurk uses that, doesn’t use Plurk, unless I’m automatically posting to the account via Ping.fm with new blog posts or via my mobile phone which then goes to all the networks I belong to anyway. But I’ve always preferred Twitter, specially now I’m using TweetDeck to control my tweets that I send and read.

What is Plurk anyway? I use tweeter cause it’s a biggest social network for working and also for friends, there’s a big amount of social networks trying to level up like tweeter and I think it’s the highest peek and no social network will reach this top.

Never used plurk before. And actually quite happy with twitter. Another good microblogging service can be compared is identi.ca, with much much better interface and can beat twitter for several functions. The only problem with twitter is frequent downtimes

Twitter is where the people are so it’s a no brainer.
What’s the use of a social networking tool if nobody in your social circle is using it?

I maintain both Plurk & Twitter. Twitter is more mainstream since almost all traditional media outlets use it. While Plurk has its own ‘cult’ following, particularly strong in Taiwan and other areas in SEA.

For me, Plurk has a better visual appeal, has an innovative timeline compared to Twitter. But of course Twitter is like the 900 pound gorilla here, which means you can’t ignore Twitter just because you already have Plurk. They’re just two different microblog spaces that can serve different purposes. Did you know you can plurk and tweet at the same time using gladlycast?
