Update: What you now see is version 7.0 of this site. Follow this link to view details on the latest version.
×What you now see is a new and improved Archon Digital which is the 6th version since the site was launched in 2007. A complete overhaul of this site has been long overdue and much of the features which I failed to completely implement on the 5th version has been implemented on this one. The new setup allows me the freedom to fully customize the layout of each post in a similar way magazine articles are individually designed.
People call it a blogazine, I call it a never-ending experiment…
Since its inception in 2007, Archon Digital has gone through at least two major permalink changes, one domain migration and five theme re-designs.
It was during the site’s fifth incarnation in late 2009 when I realized that a complete overhaul was due and that merely re-designing the theme was not enough. Over time, the previous WordPress installation on Archon Digital became a bloated mess of outdated plugins, redundant tags and categories, missing comments, dozens of redirects, useless scripts and layer upon layer of fixes and patches. It just felt right that the best way to move forward is to start afresh and avoid mistakes made on the previous versions.
The new design does away with most of the older and non-relevant content. I kept the previous version online and migrated a few old ones over here and hope the redirections to all the older articles would work just fine.
Playing around with design, typography, HTML5 Boilerplate, and the Twenty Eleven theme
This new design is a child theme built on top of Twenty Eleven, the default WordPress theme on version 3.2.
I’ve been playing around implementing custom fields, Post Formats and Custom Post Types so each post can be uniquely styled if needed. The front page slider was made using Supersized.
Twenty Eleven does a great job of implementing responsive web design and this has also challenged me to make each of my custom posts display well on smaller screens. My next move is to tweak this theme so it would render properly on an iPad, Galaxy Tab, iPhone and Blackberry Torch.
