The military has been tracking the vessel for the past few days since it left a North Korean port last Wednesday according to a senior U.S. military source.

Kang Nam, which the military has been tracking since its departure, could be carrying weaponry, missile parts or nuclear materials, a direct violation of U.N. Resolution 1874, which put sanctions in place against Pyongyang. The order to inderdict has not been given at this moment but the destroyer is on orders to position itself for such action.
