My friend and fellow street photography hobbyist, Eugene Geronimo, a.k.a., @ugin_x, was diagnosed in October of last year with nasopharyngeal cancer. We used to go and shoot the streets of Manila together before he became ill. Eugene’s battle with cancer is not yet over and he needs our help now more than ever.
Eugene recently completed six cycles of chemo therapy and 38 sessions of radio therapy treatments. These treatments left some permanent damage to Eugene’s nasopharynx along with the side effects of chemo and radio therapy. This affects the way he eats and also affects a bit of his hearing.
Last August 21, various local Instagram groups led by viajerongpinoy, along with FotografiaUnited, LifeProofAsia, among other groups, organized a fund-raising photowalk for Eugene in Intramuros. The local turnout was a success and helped cover the expenses of Eugene’s last two radio therapy sessions.
Yesterday, I met with Eugene to catch up and check on how he is doing. We also setup a fundraiser page for him on Indiegogo’s Generosity.com (formerly IndiegogoLife), as a means to widen the base of support that can help cover the costs of helping him recover.
I also just found out that Eugene is due for another MRI and I hope we can source out the funds that he needs for that soon.
Help fund Eugene’s recovery from cancer.
Please help us promote the fundraiser page for Eugene. Click on the button below and share it on your Facebook walls or on Twitter. Any help would be appreciated. Proceeds will directly go to Eugene’s personal account.
So far, Eugene has fought and is winning in his battle with cancer, but unfortunately, this has seriously affected his finances and his ability to provide for his wife and two kids.

One of the things I really appreciate about Eugene is his passion for photography, something you would probably realize early on, the moment you start your very first conversation with him. You can check out his Instagram gallery to see his body of work. Eugene lives in Tondo and is also my go-to guy when I want to shoot in the grittiest parts of Manila.
I am appealing to all of those who follow Eugene and to those who do not know him but are kind enough to help out complete strangers. Help Eugene to get back on his feet, to recover both physically and financially. Let’s all help Eugene in his battle with cancer so he can get back to work and provide for his family. Let’s help him recover so he can continue to do what he loves doing best, street photography.
